What is a PLC control system?

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) receives important information from a range of connected sensors and input devices, and process this data to make a logical decision regarding the output action.

PLC systems are ideal for use in the vast majority of working environments due to their robust design and ability to survive in even the harshest conditions; including severe heat, extreme cold, dust, and moisture. We source a range of leading Programmable Logic Controllers to control industrial processes or machines; from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, and many more.

PLC solutions are designed to deal with a large range of automation tasks within an industrial automation setting enhance all production lines’ machine functions and process control lines with PLC control. But, the biggest benefit of using a PLC within your automation processes is the ability to change, or replicate, the operation and processes whilst still communicating vital information from one stage of the process to the other. This means your operators can intercept and amend operations without the need for downtime.

PLC systems provide the foundation for most industrial control and automation systems, regardless of the sector you operate in. Whatever your control system requirements, we can provide the perfect solution to meet the needs of your application and budget.

What can a PLC system do?

  • A PLC can easily perform relay switching tasks,
  • Conduct counting, calculate and comparison of analog process values,
  • Respond to the changes in process parameters within a fraction of seconds,
  • Offers flexibility to modify the control logic whenever required,
  • Improve overall system reliability, whilst also troubleshooting issues more quickly and simply,

PLC control panel systems can either be integrated or modular in design. An integrated or compact PLC consists of several modules in a single case.

A modular design PLC consists of several components that are plugged into a common rack or bus with extendable capabilities. Modular PLC systems come in a number of different sizes of variable power supply, capabilities, and connectivity.

What do you need to consider when choosing a PLC?

  • Will this PLC system be powered by an AC or DC voltage?
  • How are you going to communicate with the PLC?
  • Is the system fast enough to meet the requirements of your application?
  • Will the PLC be able to manage the number of inputs and outputs that your application requires?

Axis Controls design and build bespoke electrical control panels and automation systems for industrial users. If you have any questions relating to the integration of a PLC system into your control or automation system, please get in touch.
