NEC standards dictate that an electrical control panel system must accommodate for the difference in power systems, voltages, and frequencies. The National Electrical Codes (NEC) main objective is safety and in particular; fire prevention. NEC also covers the creation of electrical control panels; from the design to the build, installation, and use.
The UL 508A listing mark confirms that the electrical control systems have been inspected by an independent third party. UL 508A certification confirms that our control panels meet the strict standards for safety and fire prevention set by the NEC.
Axis Controls guarantee that all of our bespoke electrical control panels and automation systems are designed, built and installed in line with the UL 508A quality and safety standards. All of our bespoke electrical control systems and the components we use are tested and certified for safety in line with the National Electrical Code standards. To ensure all of our industrial control panels are UL 508A listed, all of the components we use are UL 508A from brands, including; Siemens, Schneider, Allen-Bradley, KB Electronics, and many more.
These components are certified under the UL 508A standards to demonstrate that they meet all of the UL requirements to protect the quality and integrity of the enclosure, whilst delivering safe operational performance.
What is covered by the UL 508a mark?
When you invest in a UL 508a control panel, the certification covers the enclosure, the components installed within this enclosure; including internally panel-mounted components and externally mounted components as they were mounted during the manufacturing process.
What is UL 508a, and how does it affect me?
The UL 508a rating applies to industrial control panels. This provides evidence that a third party inspector has checked the safety and standard of these control panels – deeming them to be acceptable. The UL 508a certification ensures that this panel will be safe to use outside of the UK.
Why is the UL mark so important?
In short, the UL 508a mark is an assurance that an independent, technical expert with no financial interest has determined this control panel to satisfy the safety requirements of the UL 508a certification. You can benefit from increased quality and efficiency by investing in UL 508a approved panels.
How do we comply with UL 508A standards?
- We calculate the short circuit current rating (SCCR) for the entire electrical control panel and ensure this calculated rating is shown on a label located within the control panel.
- Where specified Axis Controls provide labels indicating the proper size and type of fuses to be used for control panel maintenance.
- Within the control panel, we arrange components in a way that follows the minimum air-space requirements determined by UL.
- We include a series of “as built” drawings within the control panel when it is dispatched to you.
- When requested we use markings to indicate the proper torque ratings on the electrical connections as specified by the component manufacturer.
- Each control panel indicates the correct use and location of E-Stop buttons with yellow legend plates, as specified by UL.
- All components used by Axis Controls are certified as safe for use under the UL 508A certification.
